Is a CCTV drain inspection worth it?
Updated October 2026
Yes, if a drain has blocked more than once, you're buying an older home, or a plumber is recommending expensive repairs. The footage tells you whether it's a one-off or a broken pipe.
| Option | Typical Sydney cost | Block Drains |
|---|---|---|
| CCTV drain inspection | $200–$550 | $249 |
What the camera shows
Roots at the joints, cracks, collapsed sections, sags that hold water, offset joints, and foreign objects. It also locates the depth and position of each defect.
When to skip it
A single, obvious blockage in a sink trap or toilet pan that clears fully. A camera adds little there.
Use it as a second opinion
If you've been quoted thousands for repairs, ask for the footage. A legitimate quote will show you the defect.
Not sure which applies to you?
A camera inspection shows exactly what's wrong before you commit to anything.
