What's actually causing blockages

Edition 1 is based on published pricing while we collect job outcomes. From the next quarterly update, this section shows the causes our plumbers record on every job (roots, grease, wipes, collapsed pipe) broken down by area. Areas with fewer than 5 jobs are left out to protect privacy.

Tree root hotspots

  • Northern Beaches: Sandy soils, coastal tea-tree roots and older cottages on clay lines make the Beaches one of Sydney's busiest areas for recurring blockages.
  • North Shore: Large blocks, mature gums and heritage terracotta sewers — tree-root intrusion is the number-one cause of blocked drains on the North Shore.
  • Western Sydney: Reactive clay soils shift with the seasons, opening pipe joints to roots and silt. High-volume area for sewer and stormwater blockages.
  • Sutherland Shire: Bushland blocks and sandstone bedrock: roots find every joint, and excavation is costly, which makes relining popular in the Shire.
  • Inner West: Federation and Victorian homes on original earthenware drains. Expect roots, collapsed sections and grease in dense dining strips.
